Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Vivienne has taken another formal step toward dropping Pitt from her legal name. Court documents reported by People show that the 18-year-old published the required legal notice of her intent to change her name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie.

The development is more than a social-media choice or professional shorthand. Publication is part of the California name-change process, moving the request toward a court hearing and placing Vivienne among several siblings who have publicly or legally moved away from the Pitt surname.

The legal notice makes the change concrete

People reported that Vivienne’s notice appeared in the Los Angeles Daily Journal on multiple dates, satisfying a required step in California’s process. A court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Until a judge approves the petition, the legal change is not final. Still, the filing marks a clear difference from simply using Jolie in public: Vivienne is asking the court to make that name official.

The move follows a broader family pattern

Vivienne is one of six children shared by Jolie and Pitt. Other siblings have also taken steps involving the family name, including Shiloh, whose legal name change was finalized in 2024. That history gives Vivienne’s petition a wider family context without establishing the private reasons behind her decision.
