Chadwick Boseman's Widow Fights Brothers' Bid to Remove Her

The fight over Chadwick Boseman’s estate has entered a sharper phase. His widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, filed a response opposing a petition by Boseman’s brothers to remove her as administrator of the late actor’s estate, rejecting their accusations and arguing that the court fight is being used to attack her publicly.

The filing creates a clear second beat in a dispute that has been building for months. Boseman’s brothers, Derrick and Kevin, previously asked a Los Angeles court to replace Ledward and appoint a professional fiduciary, saying they wanted clarity over distributions, residuals and other estate matters.

What Boseman’s brothers are asking for

People reported that the brothers filed their petition in July on behalf of a family entity connected to their parents. They alleged that parts of the probate estate had not been distributed or closed as required and raised questions about residual payments, insurance and other assets.

Their request is procedural but the consequence is substantial: if the court agrees, Ledward could lose control of the estate administration and a professional fiduciary could take over. The brothers have said their goal is transparency and stewardship of Boseman’s legacy.

Ledward’s response changes the dispute

In court papers reported by Us Weekly, Ledward denied failing to follow the court’s orders and described the petition as a public-relations effort to damage her. She argued that she had distributed estate property and had gone beyond what was required in supporting Boseman’s relatives.

Those positions remain contested. Neither side’s allegations should be treated as a final court finding, and the probate judge will ultimately decide whether the administration should change.

Why this estate still has unresolved questions

Boseman died in 2020 at age 43, leaving a major film legacy and continuing income streams tied to his work. Estate administration can involve more than cash already sitting in an account; residuals, image rights and other payments can continue long after a performer’s death.

The newest filing matters because it turns the story from a one-sided removal request into a direct legal contest over who has handled the estate properly. The next meaningful development will come from the court, not from either side’s public characterization of the dispute.
