Paris Visitors Face Curfews and Museum Access Changes This Week
Emily Carter
Updated Oct 31, 2026
As of October 28, Paris visitors face localized demonstration-related restrictions, including a ban on unauthorized gatherings in designated central areas scheduled through early October 29. The Place de la Republique overnight curfew cited in an earlier notice was scheduled to end October 27, while major museums were generally operating normally. The Louvre separately requires advance reservations through November 1, according to the city’s tourism advisory.
The Paris tourism office’s October 26 update describes several different rules with different end dates. Travelers should distinguish restrictions that remain in force from measures that affected only earlier demonstrations; Paris has not imposed a citywide closure to tourists.
The tourism advisory distinguishes several calendars that are easy to confuse. The curfew focused on the central reservation at Place de la Republique ran from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. and was scheduled through October 27. A separate ban on unauthorized gatherings in designated central areas extended to 6 a.m. on October 29, with additional overnight limits affecting unaccompanied minors. The rules did not apply uniformly across the whole city.
Where the disruption becomes practical
The tourism office listed temporary limits for some metro and regional rail connections and advised travelers to check current service before leaving. For a visitor planning a late dinner, theater performance or early airport transfer, a station entrance that is closed or an unexpected transfer restriction can change the route even when trains continue operating elsewhere.
The Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, Grand Palais and other venues were listed as closed during the October 24 demonstrations. By the October 26 update, the tourism office said the city’s principal museums and attractions were generally open on normal schedules. Those older closures should not be presented as current shutdowns.
Paris has not stopped receiving travelers
The Louvre’s reservation-only requirement through November 1 remains a current visitor obligation even when the museum is open. The tourism office directs travelers to RATP and Ile-de-France Mobilites for current transit information, including station-access changes.
Before visiting, travelers should verify any neighborhood restrictions, check transit service and book attraction-specific entry where required. These steps apply to the itinerary at hand rather than implying that Paris is broadly closed.
